What is the statute of limitations to bring a Florida auto accident case?

First, it’s important to know what a statute of limitations is. That’s usually a foreign phrase, to most of my clients. The statute of limitations means the amount of time that someone who is injured in a car accident or other kind of injury case has in order to bring that injury case. For car accidents in the state of Florida, the answer is four years from the accident date.

If you were involved in an accident in January 1, 2020, you have four years from that date in order to then bring the lawsuit. The one thing that I will caution everyone listening is do not wait. Information goes stale, memories fade, documents can’t be found, pictures are on four cellular phones ago. Make sure that as soon as it’s reasonably safe for you to contact an attorney, that you’re doing so, so that we can protect all your rights and interests from day one.
