What are PIP benefits and what does it pay for?

PIP benefits in the state of Florida is short for Personal Injury Protection benefits. It’s also synonymous or known as no-fault insurance. That’s what you hear through the airwaves. It’s also sometimes what you see on your insurance policy. It’s a portion of your automobile insurance that goes towards the first $10,000 of the medical bills, and that’s whether or not you are at fault for the accident. That’s a common misconception among my clients, which is, “The accident was someone else’s fault. Why is my PIP paying my insurance?” The answer is, Florida law requires that PIP insurance, also known as the no-fault insurance, is primary and it pays first before any other coverage applies.
